Sangria Reduction with Berries & Plums:

1/2 bottle dry red table wine
1 cup and 4 teaspoons of sugar
1 orange
3 lemons
1 1/2 cups of fresh strawberries, hulled and quartered
2 large black plums halved and pitted
1 cup of fresh raspberries
1 cup of fresh blackberries
1 cup of blue berries
Mint sprig

  • In a large sauce pan combine the wine and one cup of sugar and slowly bring to a boil. Cut the zest from the lemon and the orange. We find using a potato peeler works well. Juice the lemons (save 2 tablespoons aside) and orange then add both the zest and the juice to the sauce pan. Simmer until reduced by half. Remove from heat let cool, then strain and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl combine the strawberries, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, and two tablespoons of sugar. Stir gently till sugar dissolves.
  • In a medium bowl combine the plums (cut each half into four wedges), one tablespoon of sugar and one tablespoon of lemon juice.
  • Bring the reduction back to a boil
  • Arrange the plums and berries on the serving plate and drizzle hot Sangria reduction over the fresh fruit to release the flavors.
  • Garnish with a mint sprig
